About Chris

My name is Chris Matera and I’m running for School Committee.

I’ve worked in Higher Education my entire adult life. I started off as a work study student in a Financial Aid office doing systems administration and helping create more efficient systems so students could get the critical financial aid to help finance their degrees. It was incredibly informative and helped me understand what colleges are looking for and what critical skills are needed to help them get into college.

As a Sutton resident since 2012 with three children, two of which attend the Sutton Public Schools. I’ve had a front row seat watching my kids progress from elementary to middle and high school. I’ve also had the privledge of serving on the Zonning board, which gave me an amazing opportunity to play a small role in helping our town grow while balancing its rural character.

We are entering some tough times for our school system and need to make hard choices as a district. We need to focus our efforts on our core areas; creating a curriculum that allows our kids to succeed and puts them in a position to get into the college of their choice. We need to create an environment that teaches kids how to think not what to think. And we need to bring common sense to the budget and to the schools balancing the needs of our town and always respecting our taxpayers. I love our town, and as a parent and if elected to the board, I promise to focus all my efforts on making the Sutton Schools a high performing organization that puts our children in the best position to succeed!
